Camera Raw Edits

Before

After

Night Time on Campus- 1/18/11, BYU-Idaho Campus, f/4, 1.3, no tripod just me standing still

This was my jpeg photo that I opened in camera raw and adjusted. I wouldn't say that it looks better, but I shows that I know how to use it haha. After I was done editing it the file had that symbol on the top-right corner showing that it had been edited in camera raw.

Tree and Sunset- 1/27/11, 5:52pm, Rexburg, ID, f/4, 1/45

What I decided to do for my edit picture was to darken the tree and lighten up the sunset. I pretty much just just the simple edit tools in camera raw, and I think it turned out nicely.

Panorama

Awesome Sunset- 1/27/11, 5:51-5:52pm, Rexburg, ID, f/4.5, 1/45

For my panorama, I decided to use the really cool sunset, so I zoomed in on it and pieced it together. After I did the photomerge I ended up cropping it a little bit because part of it looked weird, but I like how it ended up.

Flexible Edits

Before

After
For this one I used the crystalize filter. Then with the paint tool I painted over everything except the license plate, so the plate is the only thing in the picture with the crystalize filter on it.

Before

After
So instead of darkening the image, I selected the "Screen" option to lighten the image, then with the paintbrush I made it so the sky went back to it's original color.

Flora and Fauna

Frozen Crabapples, BYU-I Campus, 1-24-11, f/5.6, 1/250

Hanging On, BYU-I Campus, 1-24-11, f/5.6, 1/125

Orange and White, Menan Butte, 1-24-11, f/5.6, 1/20

Orange Out of Focus- Menan Butte, 1-24-11, f/5.6, 1/20

Fish Out of Water- Beaver Dick Park, 1-24-11, f/5.6, 1/60

Birds of a Feather- Rexburg, ID, 1-14-11, f/5.6, 1/1,600

I decided to do 2 pictures of the crabapples and 2 pictures of the sagebrush just because I liked more than just 1 of each haha. I was walking through campus and saw the crabapples still on the tree and had to take picture of them. Then with the sagebrush I went to R Mountain aka Menan Butte hoping to get a good sunset or panorama shot, but the sun didn't break through the clouds, but then I saw the orange lichen on the sagebrush and thought it was cool along with the snow. Then I saw the dead fish next to a river that I was trying to get a sunset reflection shot off of, I failed at getting the sunset shot but thought the dead fish, probably a carp, looked cool. Then I saw the ducks at the nature park a little while back and knew I had to get animal pictures. I like how it looks like they're huddled up, they broke away from a much larger group.

Week 2 Color Assignment: Red

Extinguisher- 1/18/2011, 4:50pm, f/5.6, 1/80

Coke-1/15/2011, 11:40pm, f/4, 1/10

Winter Berries- 1/14/2011, 4:20pm, F/5.6, 1/80

Train Crossing- 1/14/2011 4:36pm, F/5.6, 1/125

Since it's winter and everything is white, a color that really sticks out is red. I decided to do red after I was able to catch the railroad crossing malfunctioning and was able to get some pictures. The big Coca-Cola gas tank is behind where I work at Horkley's. Then I saw the red berries while I was out taking pictures for the blend assignment. And finally the picture of the fire extinguisher is in the Spori Building above an actual fire extinguisher.

Spori at Night- 12-3-2010 3:36am, In front of the Spori Building, f/4.5, 2 sec., Tripod

For the baseball and rodeo pictures, I was a sportswriter for a newspaper back home for my internship so I took photos at all of the events I went to. That's what got me into photography, before I was just a writer. For the pictures of the temple, those are only two of many that I have, I love running up to the temple when there is a cool sunset. I took the Flaming Gorge picture and the Palisades picture when I went home for Thanksgiving, the weather and light was perfect for both. For the picture of the Tetons, I've always just loved this view while driving to Victor, and I finally stopped at the scenic overview this summer and took pictures! Then the picture of the Spori was for a Scroll photo assignment, you'll see it in the spread this week, we were told to take night photos and so I took photos of the Spori building and I used a tripod, and a lot of the times I was taking the pictures while laying on my stomach haha.

With the Cutouts, I missed class on Friday and have no idea how to do them. I tried and looked at the examples but couldn't figure out how to do it, bummer.
